A little more than a year ago, months before COVID, the Pedaling for Parkinsons class at the APEX Recreation Center in Arvada Colorado came up with a unique idea to ride indoor, stationary bikes across the USA.  Yes, that's correct - bikes that don't move.  But our imaginations do!

At the time, the group made up mostly of people living with Parkinsons was meeting in the Cycling Studio three times each week, pedaling for an hour at 80 to 90 RPMs - a protocol thats been proven to mitigate Parkinsons disease symptoms up to 35%.  Like anyone, however, riding a bike going nowhere is not all that exciting.

In March 2020, the world hit a speed bump in the form of a global pandemic - a virus called COVID 19.  Facilities across the country shut down and our group was stranded about half way - hypothetically.  By early April, we resumed our imaginary journey in a virtual world, pressing on to complete the ride.

The trip took 92 days, from Eureka California on the Pacific Coast to Quandarry Lighthouse near Lubec Maine on the Atlantic Coast.  After a little celebration, someone asked, "Now where should we go?"

New Zealand!

The trip began on Monday, Nov 12, 2020 and aims to ride From Auckland, to then northern end of the North Island, then south along the Pacific coast to southern most part of the South Island.  Then, returning to Auckland via the Tasmanian Sea coast.
